Sand and cement mortars are typically used to finish external walls on block-built houses. Besides flat ‘floated’ finishes there are several other decorative methods for finishing sand and cement renders.

Multi-finishing Services
Floor Screeding
Using a sand and cement mixture to create a smooth finish for concrete sub-floors.
Hardwall and Skim
An alternative method for finishing an internal block wall is Hardwall and Skim. Hardwall is a Gypsum-based backing coat that is used in place of sand and cement. Hardwall is finished with Multi-Finish plaster to create a smooth surface.
Metal stud partitioning
Metal stud framing and suspended ceiling systems serve as a foundation on which plasterboard is attached to craft interior walls and ceilings. This method is often used in buildings where the bulk of the construction is concrete formwork.
Lime rendering and pointing
Sand and Lime mortars were used extensively in building up until the use of cement became commonplace around the middle of the last century. The ability of lime mortars to allow the transfer of moisture through granite and cob walls means that it is still the only suitable method for use in the construction and renovation of many traditional buildings.
Internal plastering – Skimming
The finishing coat is applied to the plasterboard before painting. With the correct preparation, a wide variety of surfaces including old painted masonry and Artex can be ‘skimmed’ to produce a flat, smooth surface.
Plaster boarding
Gypsum Plasterboard creates the basis of internal walls and ceilings. Whether screwed to timber or metal stud work or stuck to block work using a bonding compound.
Through-Colour and Insulated External Render Systems
These proprietary systems are increasingly used as an alternative exterior finish to sand and cement renders. They are also frequently used where additional external insulation is necessary or beneficial. We work with leading brands such as Sto, Baumit, Weber & K-rend.
